Horrible wet and windy day, at least it's not cold so we don't need the heating on. It's forecast to be very unsettled, showery, windy etc all week, so not good washing drying weather. I've done a wash load of dog towels and blankets this morning, so they'll have to go on the airers - washing still has to be done, regardless of the weather.
So an inside day - fortunately I have plenty to do. A freezer inventory for a start and then a meal plan, I've got quite a few home cooked meals in the freezer, either whole meals or leftovers to be made into something else, so I want to get all those incorporated into a meal plan for the next couple of weeks. Then I've got some banking to do, a new budget to include the new Council tax and electricity monthly payment rises now the Government handout has ended. And moving money around into different accounts, I have several savings accounts for different things. I need to check on husband's online account too, he had some trouble signing into it the other day, so I might have to manage it for him in future.
I'm going to make salmon fishcakes for dinner, and some scones or mini fruitcakes for husband to have with his afternoon cuppa. Did anyone see Jamie Oliver's programme last night? He made spaghetti with a cauliflower cheese sauce, using frozen cauli and a (fresh) leek which he then added a bechamel sauce to and whizzed it up with a stick blender to create a sauce for the spaghetti. He finely chopped a slice of bread and some bits of leek and fried them in garlic butter until crisp, to use as a garnish for the spaghetti, the whole meal was a brilliant idea and one I'm definitely going to do, I've got 2 or 3 bags of frozen cauli and we still have leeks from last year in the garden.
Husband isn't giving up meat but is happy to eat less meat and have veggie days, eating the veggie or fishy things I make for myself.
Betty came home from the groomers yesterday looking all fluffy, feeling silky smooth and smelling gorgeous....it won't be long though until she's smelling like a wet dog again! Just as well I love her 😁
Didn’t the government announce they would be doing the reduced electricity charges for 3 more months? Have you thought about power of attorney just in case things deteriorate more?
ReplyDeleteHmm, not heard about the Government announcement. PoA - yes, it's one of the things I'm looking into. Thanks
DeleteMy Husband has some cognitive issues which sometimes make it a bit of a struggle for him to manage online banking etc. We recently added me as a third party on his bank accounts, which was quick and easy (NatWest) and means I can now operate his accounts as necessary - his accounts show up in my online banking, and they've also issued me my own debit card for his current account which is very useful as he has prior form for losing his bank cards! This might be a quick and easy (and also cost-free) everyday solution for you while you think about the PoAs?
ReplyDeleteYes, sadly washing doesn't always wait for nice drying weather does it.
ReplyDeleteWould it be a good idea to turn all your accounts into joint accounts so that you have easy access to everything, then PoA wouldn't be needed.
Jamie's programme last night was really good wasn't it, there are so many good ideas in this series. Thanks for reminding me to pay my Council Tax too, the bill came a couple of weeks ago and I meant to pay it a bit earlier. I'm going to do it right now before I forget again!
I was going to mention Lasting Power of Attorney, too. We're in the process of doing ours. We're using a solicitor, but you can do it online and it's cheaper. There are 2 forms, one for finance and one for health and wellbeing. The finance one can be activated as soon as it's registered, the health one, only when the person loses capacity. The solicitor did say it can currently take up to 4 months for the forms to be registered with the Office of the Public Guardian, so if you decide to do it, best sooner rather than later! I do think everyone should have one, because things can happen at any time and people can lose capacity for any number of reasons, sometimes temporarily, sometimes permanently. I know from experience, having an LPA for someone makes dealing with finances and medical things so much easier.
ReplyDeleteCold, wet and windy here. I'm sick of being frozen! No sign of things warming up any time soon, though. xx
This is probably the longest of long shots in your causal elimination process. Do you have a carbon monoxide (CO) detector in your home? Mains gas isn't the only potential cause of CO problems. It's rare, unusual and unlikely but occasionally, very occasionally, other fossil fuel burning appliances can cause CO problems and health issues. Bella
ReplyDeleteNo CO detector. No gas here in village, oil fired boiler which is serviced yearly and safety certificate issued. Wouldn't we both be affected if it were a carbon monoxide problem though?
DeleteI'm not a CO expert but I think that prolonged low level exposure will have more effect on a person with greater susceptibilities such as a greater age, chronic heart disease, anemia or respiratory disorders.
DeleteIt's good to learn that your oil boiler is serviced and safety checked each year. As I said it was the longest of long shots.
But I felt I should mention it because it's something I'm very aware of after eventually realising that an elderly relative's increasing confusion and fatigue was due to CO poisoning. It was mains gas in his case but he didn't have a CO monitor, which would have identified the problem much more quickly.
Bella
Ah, I see. Thanks again. Oh and welcome, by the way.
DeleteYesterday was warm and sunny here, I spent an hour outside working in the garden, today it's dull and wet, both days are warm.
ReplyDeleteI've just printed off the £1 wonder recipes, and I'm going to give them a go.
ReplyDeleteI really need to pull out my scone recipe and make them. So nice to have with a cup of tea or coffee in the afternoon.
ReplyDeleteCold and snowy this morning here, but the sun came out which I really enjoy.
God bless.
I am wondering if a PoA would be necessary if everything was in join name - for finance anyway. Healthy and welfare might be a different matter entirely. . Having said that, I was an attorney/trustee/whatever they are called for Mum and Dad separately and Dad was on Mum's and Mum on Dad's.
ReplyDeleteAs it happened, neither was needed but it was good that they were there.
And I have one for both finance and Health with Beth and Tave as named trustees and it is a reassurance.
