Well, that was a bit chaotic

 😒

When husband went for his flu jab last Saturday, he was in and out within 2 or 3 minutes.  Having always had our flu jabs together in previous years, we were told we'd have to go on separate days at this new surgery, as they do it in age groups - over 65s one day, under 65s on a different day (the 2 age-related jabs have different constituents, apparently).  Hence, me being 64, I had to be in the u65s group.  I was given an appointment time, but yesterday morning I had a text from the surgery saying no need to stick to the actual time, I could go anytime after 3 pm.  So we duly went just after 3pm......only to find a big queue of about 20 people waiting outside, who'd all been sent the same text!  And loads more were arriving after me, so the car park was chockablock and getting more chaotic with each new arrival and departure.  Plus all the other people who were there to see GPs for appointments, or to collect prescriptions.  Chaos.

And then when I finally got into the jabbing room, the nurse, having asked my name and d.o.b., said "Oh!  You're on my little list to watch out for! 😱 But why are you down for the over 65s jab when you're only (only 😂😂) 64?".  I said I'd got no idea, I wasn't told anything, I was just given an appointment!  So she had to go off somewhere and check.  Turns out because my 65th birthday is next month, that puts me in the over 65 group for the 2024/25 winter flu expectation.  "So I could have come along with my husband on Saturday after all" I said....."Erm, yes, sorry about that!".  Ah well, it wasn't her fault, and at least we'll both be able to go at the same time next year.

Very strange weather yesterday, a mixture of bright sunshine interspersed with torrential downpours, and sometimes downpours whilst it was sunny.  But that's nothing - one of my lovely American blog readers, Brenda, lives in Florida on the west coast, near her son and family.  She emailed me yesterday to say they'd been told they must evacuate, as their area is likely to suffer a direct hit from Hurricane Milton, due to hit today - the message from the authorities was 'Evacuate or die'.  How absolutely terrifying.  Brenda, I hope you're safe along with your family, I'm thinking of you.  Please let us know when you can that you're safe.  Puts our little bit of rain in perspective!

It's turning a bit chilly, we've had the heating on a few times early morning and evening, just for an hour or so.  The heating is certainly efficient and soon warms the place up, we're glad about that.  I'm making a chicken mince and vegetable hotpot in the slow cooker today, it'll do us for a couple of days (we don't mind eating the same thing twice) and there'll be leftovers to freeze as I'll do a big potful.

  1. I watched "The Great Flood of 1968" last night, featuring Somerset. Horrendous! I'd have been just 4 at the time so can't actually remember it.

  2. Well that was all very annoying! At our GP surgery, you get an appointment time (ours were 12.06 and 12.08 - very precise!) but we were there early and were straight in. I didn't know there were different jabs for different age groups.
Yes, the news from Florida is frightening. I saw on TV this morning, the reporter was standing by a very high bridge, saying that's how high the water is predicted to get - over 15 feet! I hope Brenda, and all Floridians keep safe. xx

    1. Thank you for the thoughts and prayers to one of my favorite of all time bloggers. Yes, we are leaving. I was evacuated from the condo on Monday. Son and wife emptied it except for an old sofa and a chest. The kitchen and bathroom cabinets and shelves in closets are piled high. The house has everything-almost=moved to higher levels...it is big...our cars are parked somewhere we hope is safer...my son has spent three days preparing both places. He spent his birthday, Monday, working too. We are planning to leave today...We are going to their friends not far from here but more inland. This house is on the coast by the marina. At this point, none of us care about things, we just want to be safe. We are praying this Milton, in all his anger, lessens before he hits. He is supposed to hit here where we live in the Tampa Bay area. If you look on a map of US, we are in Palm Harbor, Florida...there has not been a DIRECT hit in this area in over 120 years...yes we did have Helene last week, but not a direct hit...there is a story that years ago, the Native Americans blessed this area, and that is the reason there is no direct hit. Well, let me say this today, after so much anxiety, let this blessing work again. We have no idea what we will come home to. We have no idea what shape the condo or the house will be. I told my daughter if one or the other is a mess, I will fly to Indiana to see her, and she can take me home to see my friends in WV, where I grew up. There are times one needs to see what was instead of living for what is...the little grandsons here are delightful and taking it in stride. Thank you so much for caring about someone you have never met. You know what you mean to me, and I am devoted to your journey. Prayers please.
