After we came back from holiday (2.5 weeks ago now, where has the time gone?), husband bought and put together 3 sets of those metal Meccano type shelving units, for his shed....lots of loud cursing and sighing as he did so, but he got them all done eventually. All the accumulated junk had to come out of his shed so he could install the shelving units, this meant most of the junk was put in the car port. There are a few things in the car port that I need regular access to - the tall upright freezer, my fresh veg box, the zombie apocalypse (emergency supplies) box and the food waste bin. Actually, we have hardly any food waste, we use the bin for veg and fruit peels, teabags and the like....compostable stuff which then gets transferred into one of the compost bins in the garden (husband has acquired 4). Initially, he put back some of his junk into his shed....I did suggest that it was a good time for him to go through some of it and do a tip run for junk he really didn't need, which he did - well, one trip for just some of the stuff. However, after that initial flurry of activity a fortnight ago, the rest of his junk has remained in the car port, and has been added to with a number of cardboard boxes from deliveries of 'stuff' he's ordered off the internet (yes he's been into one of his recurring obsessions about buying stuff again recently). Several times I've asked him to sort out the car port and finish the job off, it's fallen on deaf ears as usual. This morning, after I'd had to shift a load of his junk once again to get to my veg box, I put my foot down and told him to clear it all out - THIS MORNING! Clutter is one of my biggest annoyances, in no way am I a minimalist type of person, but I do like things to be organised and tidy! Mess just irritates the hell out of me. So now, after some filthy looks and grumblings under his breath, he's out there doing it. I'll have to keep an eye out and see that he finishes it all though, he's notoriously bad at finishing a job.
Husband is such a hoarder, I don't even know where he gets half the stuff from. Well, I do know that if he's out with the dog, say, and notices a neighbour putting stuff out for the tip, husband will often ask if he can have it - the neighbours are only to happy to agree of course, saves them a job! He always says it might come in useful - except it never does, it just gets added to the piles of junk he's already got. I've said to him that he'd better stop acquiring junk and start sorting through it and getting rid of a lot, as I really don't want the trouble and expense of having to hire someone to come and take it all away if husband becomes too incapacitated to deal with it himself. Or dies!
I've decided I'm definitely going to have my hair cut in the style of that picture, I shall go into town and visit a couple of hairdressers to make an appointment this week, for as soon as they can do it. And I'm going to start colouring it myself again too, it's about time I started doing some self-care.
I like my "stuff", I couldn't be minimalist to save my life, but I don't like mess (reminder to self, sort out the toppling pile of fabric under the sewing machine table). And don't look in our garage! 😂
ReplyDeleteThat hairstyle is great, I hope you're happy with it. Are you going for a "normal" colour or something a bit funky? It's been donkey's years since I coloured my hair. My excuse is I have a patch of psoriasis on my scalp, which will get irritated. The real excuse is, I can't be a*sed! xx
K, I've had a box of metallic silver hair colour for months, never got round to using it. So that's what I'll start off with - rather than the natural fading grey my hair is now, I might as well go the whole hog! xx
DeleteWill you post a photo when it's all done? I can understand if you don't want to, but I'd love to see it! xx
DeleteI might, depends if I'm happy with the result 😂 xx
DeleteMy husband is a hoarder. His shed has over 15 toolboxes all full, tools hung on every wall, loads of drawers filled with more tools, and enough nails and screws to build a rank of houses. Gardening tools are in a different shed. We live in a small 3 bed terraced house that doesn't need any repairs. His wardrobe is crammed full of clothes plus he has several boxes of clothing stored in the loft. The bottom of the wardrobe is stacked high with over 20 pairs of shoes too. I've tried to convince him to adopt the 2 out one in method to reduce it but no joy so far lol
ReplyDeleteGood for you Sooze, be kind to yourself. I loved the haircut you posted and the colour you are thinking about would look great.
ReplyDeleteWe women put everything and everyone before ourselves… why? Why do we feel responsible for it all? Is it nature or nurture? Do we need to raise our daughters differently? I would be interested on your thoughts Sooze and anyone else who would like to comment…if that’s okay with you Sooze. June
June, I had to take on a caring responsible role from a young age, I didn't have a choice. So for me it's something I've always done, almost without thinking.
DeleteI too had to but at sixteen, older than you were. I nursed my mother who had lung cancer for a year whilst. helping to look after my sister’s (who was in hospital for three months) children. It was different times then, you just had to get on with it. It made me grow up and become independent.
DeleteI really hope you will be happy with your new hair style, you so deserve this. June x
I am afraid I could be considered a hoarder of fabric and yarn. But I do try to use it all.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
