A restful day for a sore arm

Apparently Hurricane Milton had downgraded by the time it reached land last night - still caused death and destruction though, some from loads of tornadoes.  Terrifying.  I hope Brenda and family are safe and have homes to go back to, when they're allowed - how scary and unsettling to think that your home might have gone, just gone.  But as long as you're all safe and well, that's all that matters.  We're so fortunate living here, in more ways than one.

I've been having flu jabs (and all the covid ones) for years now, due to my diabetes and being husband's carer (he has all the jabs too, obviously).  Neither of us has ever really had much of a reaction to any of them, other than a slightly sore arm and some tiredness.  Following my flu jab on Tuesday, I was absolutely fine all day yesterday.....come the evening, however, I felt really tired and the top of my arm was beginning to be quite sore.  I went to bed early (9 pm ish) but just couldn't get to sleep at all, I felt  feverish and uncomfortable and my arm was so sore I couldn't lie on that side.  Finally dropped off around 02.30, only to be woken up by Betty jumping off my bed and messing around on her bed in my room - she was having a mad 5 minutes, tossing her cushion around and snorting - she snorts when she gets excited.  I managed to drop back off to sleep when she finally settled down on her own bed, but slept very fitfully, waking up several times feeling sweaty, restless and uncomfortable, with my arm hurting like hell.  This morning the injection site feels very sore indeed, is a bit swollen and feels very hard, I was also surprised to see it's quite red for about an inch or two around the injection site.  When I checked on the internet for flu jab reactions, it seems all of the above are fairly normal things, so I'm not worried about it, I dare say it'll wear off in a day or two.  What's a sore arm though in the grand scheme of things?

We don't have to go anywhere today, I don't have to cook dinner as we're having some more of the big slow cooker hotpot I made yesterday, there's nothing much in the way of housework that needs doing (or that can't wait a couple of days), so I'm having a day of rest.  Husband is already snoring in his armchair (despite flatly denying he constantly falls asleep) and Betty is asleep on my bed, so looks like we're all having a restful day!  I'll read and do some crocheting, and maybe have a snooze this afternoon.

The weather looks reasonable for the next few days, so I'm hoping (planning) to get out in the garden and do a final tidy up for winter.  I want to write a shopping list for Monday, we'll be going to Aldi (the nearest one is Taunton way), I go every few weeks to stock up on some of their products I really like....such as their own brand frothy coffees, they taste much the same as the big brand name one but are half the price.  I also like their frozen lemon & herb dusted fish fillets and posh rice packets, and get a 6-pack of 2 litre bottled water.  My conscience is pricked a bit about the plastic bottles, but I drink a lot of water and really don't like our tap water here.....I justify it slightly by giving Betty the empty bottles to play with, she adores a plastic bottle, it's her favourite toy (she likes the crackly sound they make when she grabs them).  Husband likes the Aldi ancient grains loaf and loves browsing their middle aisles.

  1. The hurricane is frightening. I daren't think of the damage it's done to buildings. I hope Brenda and her family are all safe and sound.
I hope your rest day helps you get over the jab. Sometimes, they do have more side effects than others. No idea why!
It's a lovely, sunny, if nippy day here today. I've just swept up a load of leaves, but no doubt it'll be as bad again in a few days.🍂 xx

  2. We're lucky here, we have an Aldi and a Lidl side by side at the top of the road.

  3. We survived another hurricane. One can't imagine the fear...but we were hopeful. Prayers answered and Milton lessened from five to a three before he came here. He landed a little south of us. We will know what is going on when we are permitted to go to my son's home and my little condo. Will take days to put back together, but you know what? We are together. Thank YOU so so so much for caring.

  5. Our Sophie and Rosy both loved playing with plastic bottles, Sophie was always picking up any bottle she found when she was out on a walk and trying to bring it home with us. We found that the 2 litre bottled water is all in packs of four in our Aldi, but the price is exactly the same!!

I hope your arm continues to improve, but a lazy day sounds just the job for helping it. I love the Ancient Grains loaf too, but I've not had any bread for the last couple of weeks, so when I next get one it will be a real treat.

  6. I've had much the same reaction to my flu jab, I have to get both shots in the same arm which does not help, mine were done last Saturday and I'm fine again now, just a bit tender to touch. We filter all our drinking water, I keep a bottle of it in the fridge for hubby he loves very cold water.

  7. I had my flu shot and my Covid shot on the same day, different arms. Both injection sites turned red, and itched like crazy. My arms hurt for a week! Finally everything is almost back to normal. I can still tell where they jabbed the needle in but I can at least sleep on my side!

  8. I've just had the covid jab this year, declined the flu jab as each year I've had it, it's given me a bout of illness for a fortnight after. I know it's not a "live" vaccine but whatever it is, it doesn't agree with me.

  9. Some say that a really vigorous reaction like that is a sign that the jab has 'taken' well. If so, that's some consolation I suppose 😆. Hope you're soon back to normal. I need to book my flu jab, but I'm not eligible for my covid one just yet (hubby has had both already).

  10. I think the only time I've had a bad reaction was when I had the pneumonia jab at the same time as the flu jab. By the time I walked the 20 minutes home all I was fit for was to crawl into bed, where I stayed for a few days. I missed last year's flu jab, as did my daughter... we both got flu in January this year. She ended up in A and E, and I was in bed for a week, then developed sinusitis. We're having flu jabs this Saturday, though I've had to cancel my mum's as she's currently having injections into her eye, and her consultant has said that she can't have any other injections for 2 weeks either side of them. Getting her a flu jab is now going to be a logistical nightmare!
