Peace!

For the first time in what seems like weeks, there is complete and utter peace here, it's bliss.  No blasted TV on, I haven't even got the radio on, I'm just enjoying the silence!  Husband has gone to the gym, his first visit in about 2 1/2 weeks.  I've got a few housework jobs to do this morning, then I want to get stuck into some budgeting and looking up some things on the internet this afternoon.

Yesterday we went to Aldi, for our usual monthly shop there - it was going to be today, but husband wanted to go yesterday 'as it would be quieter'.  Was it heck as like -  the roads were reasonably quiet (people were staying in because of the bad weather I guess, it was raining heavily in parts and some of the roads were partially flooded) but when we got to the shop, I was irritated to find that it was heaving - and lots and lots of children.  I loathe supermarket shopping when it's busy - at least there aren't many kids around during term weeks.  Once again, to my annoyance, there was none of my favourite latte sachets - we asked a staff member to check out the back, he came back and said there weren't any in the stock room.  So we asked to speak to a manager - I wanted to get to the bottom of why they haven't had any for our last 3 visits.  The manager checked and said it wasn't discontinued and there was no reason why it shouldn't have come in on the delivery....."but yet you have none" I said.  He just shrugged, apologised and could offer no explanation as to why.  Back home I checked on the Aldi website - he was right, it isn't discontinued, nor is their lactose-free milk which they also haven't had in stock for months.  The Ancient Grains bread, however, is discontinued.  So I've sent a message to Aldi, asking why these products aren't being stocked, and also why their staff are clueless as to the reasons.  I also pointed out that since 3 of our favourite products, which we buy a month's worth of each time, haven't been available for months now, there seems little point in us making the long journey to shop there.  I'm not hopeful of an encouraging reply, but we shall see what the response is, if any.  It's a pity they don't do home delivery - not that we would be any more successful in getting the products, but at least we wouldn't have the 30-35 min journey each way.

It's bright sunshine and a lovely blue sky this morning, but there's a bitterly cold strong wind again and more rain is forecast.  I've got a wash on but won't bother putting it on the line, it'll have to go on the airer in the car port.

My new glasses should be ready for collection in the next day or 2, and we have a friend coming to see us one day this week - unfortunately, she has a habit of just sending a text or email to say she's on her way, without checking that we'll even be in, so let's hope we will be on whatever day she decides to come!  In her defence, she does have a very busy life, so clearly just slots us in when she finds she's got a spare hour or 2.

Well, that sunshine was brief - it's now gone and it's chucking it down.  Roll on Spring!!

  1. It is annoying when a favourite thing disappears with no explanation. Good luck with the email. If you're anything like me, you'll be lucky to even get an acknowledgement! I emailed Sainsbury's to ask why they had no manned tills, even though they have them in the store and there's staff about. That was months ago. Still waiting for a reply. 😡
We had snow yesterday, but it's all but gone now. Just a bit left on the grass. It rained overnight and I was dreading it freezing. I got our Yaktraks (those spiky overshoe things)out, just in case! I don't want a broken leg. xx

  3. How infuriating that they have stopped stocking your faves. Perhaps you'll be able to find a good alternative on Amazon, which you could then buy in bulk as required. Fingers crossed! We've got a bit of sun just at the moment and I think I'll go out for a walk to make the most of it before it disappears...

  4. It's always annoying when your favourite items are no longer stocked, but do you have a Lidl near, as most items in Lidl are similar or the same as Aldi, just packaged differently.

  5. Like you I hate shopping when there are loads of people around. It gives me a headache.

    God bless.

  6. I used to be able to get Fage 2% yogurt but suddenly it just stopped - annoying. Ditto with a really nice Greek yogurt called Liberte - that just stopped too. Really annoying (although definitely a First World problem).

Hopefully, your goods will be back in stock soon. Have you tried an Amazon search? xx

  7. I was really sad when they discontinued the Ancient Grains, it made the most perfect toast. I can't seem to find a suitable replacement.
