It's drizzly, grey, windy and freezing cold again today, how depressing, and forecast to be much the same all week. The local weather lady on TV this morning said it's colder than average for this time of year - don't I know it! Although there is a glimmer of hope, apparently it will be a couple of degrees warmer at the end of the week.
I got husband to drop me off in town when he went to the gym this morning.....I didn't really want to go in this weather, but needed a few things in town, all of which I got so that was a good thing. I'd arranged with husband for him to pick me up in the usual place (outside one of the shops that has a covered canopy so I could shelter out of the rain) and at the usual time. Well, he was 10 minutes late for a start, I saw him coming and then he drove straight past me and around the corner into a car park at the back of the shops, around 300 yards or so away from where I was stood waiting, so I got even wetter and colder walking to where he was. He didn't even glance in my direction when he drove past, he'd clearly forgotten where he was supposed to meet me, but why on earth he drove to a car park where we almost never meet up is beyond me. He couldn't explain it when I asked him, other than to say he thought that was what we'd agreed. 😒 I wasn't best pleased. Since we've been home he's asked me the same question 3x in the space of half an hour....I think the cold today must be affecting his brain!
I've just had an email from the library reminding me my books are due back in a couple of days, it doesn't seem like 3 weeks since I got them out. I've only finished one of the 6 books and am halfway through a second, not much reading done lately obviously, I've just renewed them online. Last time I checked my library account online, I was a bit shocked to see overdue charges amounting to around £19 on my account - I always renew my books online if I haven't finished them so where the charges came from I don't know. However, the charge has now been removed so it must have been a glitch in their system. As I'm still feeling cold (my nose and fingers are freezing despite the heating being on), I'm just going to sit and read this afternoon, snuggled up with a fleece blanket and cup of hot chocolate. I was going to do the baking I mentioned yesterday, date & walnut cake and a cheesy soda bread, but will put it off till tomorrow.
I'm eating too many carbs again lately, I blame it on the weather. Another reason I can't wait for Spring to arrive.
Once I get cold, I can't seem to warm up, no matter how high the heating is or how many layers I put on. Old age! Who'd have it? I'm sure I never used to bother about the cold when I was younger.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad the library noticed the glitch and rectified it. That's one heck of a fine, otherwise!
Would your husband benefit from a post-it note on the dashboard, saying where/when to pick you up? Or would he not notice it or throw it away? I have to admit, I need a memo for everything, and then I sometimes forget the note. Another of the joys of getting older! xx
A post-it might work, thanks K xx
DeleteCarbs and hot drinks are the order of the day when the temperature drops so much. Keeping warm is essential or you'll be open to all sorts of bugs and viruses (virii???) Putting on a little bit of extra fat is not a bad thing and once the weather improves you will soon shed the extra when you start working in the garden.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the permission! haha
DeleteI don't think I would survive without lists and notes.
ReplyDeleteIt is so hard to warm up when one is thoroughly chilled, isn't it? xx
Once you get cold right into the inside, it's hard to warm up. Sending hugs because you didn't need to get that cold.
ReplyDeleteWhen I went shopping on Saturday, it took forever for me to warm up as well. My nose felt like an ice cube. We are also being pretty carb heavy in this cold. Like you say once spring hits, hopefully lighter eating will as well. I do hope you don't get sick from walking in the cold and rain.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
It’s absolutely freezing in my little north east Essex seaside town today- with nasty cold rain too. So nasty that I drove to the WEA meeting I usually walk to- it takes 15 mins to walk so very naughty of me but if I had had to walk I wouldn’t have gone! Hope you had a cosy afternoon.
ReplyDeleteThat's exactly what Alan does to me time and time again. We arrange a time and place to meet and he virtually always gets it wrong. And seemingly he can't pick me out in a crowded space AT ALL. I need to dye my hair bright blonde again ... I think I am merging into the background!!
ReplyDeleteFebruary is my least favourite month, purely because it always seems the coldest and it's always so damp and dull, I'm just glad it's the shortest month. The weather forecast makes miserable reading at the moment.
