We've been to the Council offices this morning to hand over the completed forms and documentary evidence. Now, remember this blimming form filling and sorting out the printer then printing off all the required documents took me a week to do. The nice receptionist lady said she needed to photocopy everything, so I sat down in the chair handily placed in front of the reception desk, thinking it would take her a while. She copied the whole lot, including the 28 pages of the form and all of my supplied documentary evidence, scanning the things like birth & marriage certificates and husband's driving licence.....it took her less than 5 minutes. It was a super-duper all singing/dancing copier that she just put a whole sheaf of papers in and it did the whole lot in one go, rather than her having to do it individually, one sheet at a time - wow, things have certainly advanced since I was a secretary back in the day. She then date stamped both my form and the copied one and handed the whole lot of the originals (including the 28 page form) back to me. All that time and effort it took me and she did it in 3 or 4 minutes 😮. I would have thought they'd have kept the original form I filled in and just took photocopies of the original documents I wanted back, like our birth/marriage certificates and driving licence, rather than copying literally everything.....what an enormous waste of paper, especially if they do it for everyone who takes in forms (I presume they do). It's no wonder our Council is on the verge of bankruptcy and is wanting to increase our Council tax by 10%.
I'm feeling my cooking and baking mojo coming back, I've made double quantities of a few meals lately so we have homemade meals ready and waiting in the freezer. I'm also making some cakes, rolls and small savouries again - I've discovered that whilst larger cakes and bread don't cook very well in the air fryer (the bake is inconsistent), small ones like cup cakes, muffins, scones or flapjack do pretty well. The only thing I would say is that they don't rise as much as in a conventional big oven, but that's ok.
The weather is dull but not raining or cold, the sun is even forecast to come out at lunchtime, albeit briefly, so I shall go out in the front garden and do some weeding, there are a few weeds coming up in the gravelled bits outside. We have a small leather footstool on legs, I'll take that outside to sit on, it'll be fine on the path. From tomorrow showers and gusty winds are forecast again, so no garden time then. It really gladdens my heart to see the masses of Spring bulbs coming through here, both front and back, I'm so looking forward to seeing them all in bloom.
It took you a while to fill in the forms but so worth it and the baking sounds as though you're back to your old self!
ReplyDeleteI worked in a solicitor's office and they copied everything, dated and signed it, it just saves them having to worry about losing any part of the documents, copiers are now huge, our one would staple documents together, so you could print off say 10 copies and they would come out all clipped together.
ReplyDeletePhew, that must have been a relief. All that form filling etc etc done and dusted. I would keep your copies for any future reference ... or for when the council lose their copies and ask you to do it again!!
ReplyDeleteYes, the school I worked in had a super duper computerised copier. It could do all sorts of magic. Glad you've got all the evidence handed over. That's a weight off your mind. As Sue says, keep the documents - just in case! Glad your cooking mojo is coming back. A nice sunny but cold day here. It feels like spring is just around the corner, but looking at the weather forecast, maybe not just yet! xx
ReplyDeleteGood to hear things are moving forward - it'll soon be Spring!
ReplyDeleteIsn't modern technology wonderful.
ReplyDeleteWe have the first tips of snowdrops and primulas coming through, plus some early blossom.
ReplyDeletewe have been busy filling out forms for both the Canadian Pension and the UK pension for my hubby. So I feel your pain. Why do they make it so complicated? Hubby also had numerous forms he had to fill out for hearing aids......we were beginning to lose the will to live with all these forms!!
ReplyDeleteOur weather has been above normal for this time of year. Almost all the snow and ice are gone. It is going to cool down and bring more snow early next month though.
ReplyDeleteGlace and Cabbage Bread are foods that my German Grandmother got from her mother....Well most German's in the little village they lived in cooked them as well.
Cabbage bread is homemade buns stuffed with a mixture of cooked cabbage, chopped onion and some ground beef. Baked in the oven. I think it was a way to stretch the ground beef.
Glace is a kind of cross between a noodle and a dumpling. Eggs and flour are mixed into a stiff dough and dropped by spoon into boiling water (where a couple of potatoes are diced and boiling). Drained, and then served with butter and fried onions as well as a couple of fried eggs. I often wonder if it was there way of getting rid of an abundance of eggs in one shot.
God bless.
