Well, for a change, both of us got everything we wanted from Matalan, Proper Job and Aldi, so successes all round. The Taunton Aldi even had my favourite frothy coffees, having not had any the past 3 or 4 times we'd been there (although I did manage to get some from the Bridgwater store when we went for husband's dentist appointment last week), so I bought another 10 boxes. I now have enough frothy coffees to last me for two or three months, which has pleased me no end. Husband got the compost - well, a starting amount anyway, we'll need more throughout the growing season - and some veg seeds. Oh, there was one thing we couldn't get, shallot sets, but I'm sure they'll have them in the local garden centre. I got a lovely new shower mat and hand towels, plus a nice big fleece throw for my bed - in fact I bought two, they were so nice and a good price.
Sue, I love Dunelm, there is one in Taunton but it's not near where we were yesterday, it's over the other side of Taunton. Ironically, there's one close to where we had our caravan....in fact, I bought some of the soft furnishings and kitchen bits for the van from there. Speaking of the caravan, a neighbour asked yesterday if we'll miss having it.....funnily enough I was thinking about it a couple of days ago, a few fond memories of our time there but no I don't think I'll miss it really, it just wasn't the same last year after our friends left and several new people who had loads of dogs between them and didn't seem as friendly arrived. Both of us ended up not really wanting to go anymore, we were actually quite glad to give it up.
I think we need to move to Cornwall - we had none of the promised sunny spells here yesterday, just uniformly grey and dreary again, cold and with fine misty rain in the air. However, my brother who lives in Cornwall sent me a photo of their back garden - with bright sunshine and clear blue sky. I hate him π ππ (I don't really of course, and no we won't be moving to Cornwall).
We're going shopping today, I want to stock up on freezer stuff - veggies, fish, meat for husband, plus enough bread and milk to freeze and last for a month. I'm going to try doing a big shop just once a month, with just a couple of top up shops for fresh stuff every month. Dry goods, cleaning supplies and toiletries etc I'll try and build up a 2 or 3 month stock of - the theory being that cutting down on the number of times I need to go shopping will reduce spending.
Incidentally, Sue - how coincidental that your son's dogs woke him up for unknown reasons too - I wonder what it was, I certainly hadn't heard anything but Betty clearly did, she jumped up all alert and keenly listening for something and was unsettled for ages afterwards. Perhaps she saw or heard a ghost!! π³π
I'm trying your version of a nut roast today - will let you know how it goes!
ReplyDeleteWell done on getting nicely stocked up with your favourite coffees ππ» It's grey here today, but also least it's dry. I have to take my husband for a long dental appointment today, I'll take a book and read while he's in having his procedure and it'll hopefully be a nice little rest for me π It certainly sounds as though you gave up the caravan at just the right time. As you say, some lovely memories but things (and people!) move on and you've been sensible about it. You will be able to enjoy your lovely garden in the Summer, and that'll be a boost.
ReplyDeleteYes we had a lovely sunny day in Cornwall yesterday and then paid for it with a -3 degree frost last night inland where I liveπ₯Ά today started sunny but is now a bit grey.
DeleteWhereabouts in Cornwall do you live, SueJay? I live in a village about 4 miles away from Liskeard, on the edge of Bodmin Moor. Thoroughly enjoyed the sunshine yesterday and the lack of cold winds. No idea what the overnight temps were but I was snuggled under my fleece throw on top of my winter duvet. My friend says it was 'bracing' when she walked her dogs up on the Moor but lovely to feel some warmth from the sun.
DeleteGiving up the caravan was definitely the best thing for you both. When something loses it's appeal, and becomes more of a chore than a pleasure, it's time to move on. You have some lovely memories to treasure.
ReplyDeleteIt's a nice feeling when you get everything you want at the shops. Stocking up on those things you don't use more of just because you've got them in the cupboard is a good idea. It's when you stock up on biscuits and crisps that things go pear shaped. Ask me how I know!π
Supposed to be getting warmer here next week - up to 11C. I won't hold my breath, but I'll keep my fingers crossed! xx
Well you have a nice stash of coffees now, that should keep you going for a while. π
ReplyDeleteI'm seriously debating getting another caravan in the not too distant future. I really miss it.
Good for you on managing to get all that you needed on your shopping trip. I did wonder if you missed the caravan, but since you didn't mention it I figured that you thought of it fondly, but didn't miss your trips there too much.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
A really successful shopping grip - I'm very glad.
ReplyDeleteInteresting that you really don't miss the van. One of those things that was lovely for a season and now - you've moved into other things.
I wish it would warm up too. I'm so grateful for my heated fleece in the evenings. xx
