Dull days, outside and in

Another grey, dreary day, with very fine mist-like drizzle - cold but not quite so bitter as there's not such a strong wind.  I've done washing but it's on the airer in the car port, in view of the misty drizzle, it won't dry on the line.  Isn't it boring when the weather is relentlessly grey and washing has to be clogging up the hallway overnight on the airer (I don't have a tumble dryer).  Our Housing Association say we shouldn't dry washing indoors - erm just where are we supposed to dry it then, if we haven't got tumble dryers?

It took me ages to warm up yesterday, having got thoroughly chilled and wet waiting around for husband and then having to walk 300 yds to where he'd parked.  I never used to feel the cold much when I was younger, and during the menopause it was a case of hot flushes and night sweats, I'd have been grateful to feel cold then!  As I've aged though, I definitely feel chilly more often than not, despite having a good layer of fat 😂.  Thankfully I don't feel so cold today.  I've been in the nice warm kitchen with the oven on, made the cheese bread and date & walnut loaf cake, and boiled some eggs to go in the smoked haddock kedgeree we're having tonight.

I've written lists for the things I want from The Range and Aldi tomorrow (hopefully more coffees!  And we like their mature cheddar), and a list of husband's wants from Proper Job - he'll never remember, and I won't either with all of the stuff I want, my brain will only remember so much.  The three stores are all pretty close to each other, so we're killing 3 birds with one stone (what a nasty expression that is!  Must stop using it).

Nothing else to write about today, the days are all much the same at the moment.  As I keep saying - roll on Spring!!

  1. Grey, damp and miserable here, too. As Jo said yesterday, at least February is a short month. Even though March 1st isn't likely to be any better, somehow it just being March makes me feel better! xx

  2. We aren't allowed to dry washing in our flat and neither are we allowed to put airers outside. It is assumed that we will use the laundrette that is a couple of miles away, with no bus route. Needless to say I dry my washing indoors with my dehumidifier running.

  3. It’s still grey and damp here- I’m drying my washing on a heated airer - it dries my washing pretty quickly. I’ve had the airer several years now and it’s been great. It currently going next to my barometer and the humidity level has not increased. I think it’s the cover which helps with that. You’ve inspired me to get on and do some baking - I’ve been putting it off for weeks!

  4. I always dry my washing indoors, at this time of year or in Summer if it's raining. Sadly my airer has to go in the bedroom as there's literally nowhere else to stand it (well it would fit in between me and the television, but that would make for boring viewing wouldn't it). I tend to put things off it one at a time onto the radiator rack in the bedroom as that is the only radiator that is uncovered with a shelf, so one by one as hey dry things get put away over the course of the day.

  6. Another indoor-airer-dryer here, lol! We live in the middle of London and I don't like to dry washing outside as it doesn't smell freshly washed if I do. I tend to move the airers round the house to follow any sun, and am careful about keep proper ventilation. I think the rules about no drying indoors in so many housing association properties must be because some people don't really understand that you need to keep air circulating to avoid damp - so they have to write the rules for them! My daughter has a Dry:Soon which I slightly covet...

  7. Cold, dull day here too! A friend in New Zealand is complaining about the sun and being too hot! I could do with some sunshine!

  8. We have the sun at least, but the temperatures are not at all nice. Pretty sure this cold snap will be ending on the weekend though. I hang clothing downstairs on our basement lines. Takes a full day at least drying time, but saves using the dryer.

    God bless.

  9. I am learning that when I feel cold inside and can't warm up, it's because I haven't eaten enough. Something small like marmite on toast or a boiled egg really helps much more than just a hot coffee. I guess it give the insides something to work on. xx
