Lovely sleep

I got a text early yesterday to say the mattress would be coming between 10 and 12, much better than having to wait all day.  It actually arrived at 09.50, even better.  One slight problem....it's much deeper than my previous mattress and my fitted sheets weren't big enough, so we had to nip into town to buy a deeper one.  Not much choice of colours (only white or grey actually), but it was cheap enough and it's only a temporary measure, I've ordered a couple more in my preferred purple colour off the internet (how did we all manage before the internet?!).

Well, both Betty and I slept well last night, the mattress is lovely, medium firm was the description and it feels both - nice soft and comfy top layer with firm supportive springs underneath, then another soft layer at the bottom.  The mattress is flippable, my last one wasn't.  I didn't wake up until 7.10, which is late for me, I almost didn't want to get out of bed it was so comfy and warm.

And another good thing - my bus pass arrived yesterday, which was amazingly quick.  Whilst the photo on it looks awful (I hate having my photo taken, which is reflected in my facial expression) and having a concessionary free bus pass is another reminder that I'm getting old - it does now mean that I can have free bus travel whenever and wherever I want (within reason).  I won't be taking advantage of it just yet though - it's far too cold for me to be standing around at bus stops waiting for a notoriously unreliable bus that might well be late, too full to allow any more passengers on, or not turn up at all.  Anyway, the prospect of sitting in close proximity in an enclosed space with people who might be coughing and sneezing, filling the bus up with germs, doesn't much appeal right now.  😱  I'll wait till it gets a bit warmer and the colds/flu viruses start easing up, thanks.  Apparently, the bus pass also entitles me to half fare on a couple of the dial-a-ride door-to-door minibus services that operate locally, which is good news - it means we'll be able to get to GP or other appointments which aren't served by normal bus services.

Very cold again today (no snow here though), I'll be putting bed linen on the line but I'm sure it won't fully dry out there.

Oh, husband must have argued himself out on Sunday, he was ok yesterday, just a normal level of contrariness which is easier to deal with.

  1. The bus passes are a real bonus, one of the rew advantages of getting older. In our part of the country (Newcastle) we also get free use of the Tyneside Metro for just a small annual fee - a real bonus as we live just a couple of hundred yards from one of the stations.

    1. The only train service we've got here is a private steam one, more of a tourist or steam train nerd thing, can't use bus passes on it, sadly.

    2. I had such a funny experience on that train a few years back. I got on at Blue Anchor to spend a day in Minehead. Realised v quickly Minehead had changed a lot in 40 years so decided to go back to BA. Got on train, carriage almost full of v snooty looking ladies but I sat down (4th at a table for 4). No one said a word to me, very unpleasant atmosphere. Got off at BA & only then realised I'd boarded a private hire 'afternoon tea' carriage!

  2. Does your bus company have an app where you can find out the real time the buses are expected at the bus stops? I find it really helpful as our buses have to cope with heavy traffic on and off as we do and are not as accurate as the time table would have you believe. Before the app I didn't mind much if they were a bit late, up to a point, but absolutely hated it when they were earlier than expected and I missed yet another one.

    1. Ooh I don't know Annabeth, I'll have to find out. Would be useful if it does, thanks.

    2. I have the Bus Checker app, it seems to cover all our local services, and claims to have live updates as to when buses are due:

  3. A good night's sleep does wonders for your well being, doesn't it? And it's good that it was delivered early. I wouldn't want to be making up my bed late in the day, either!
I rarely use my bus pass, but when I do, I always feel like a naughty schoolchild sneaking on without paying!😂 xx

  4. The mattress sounds fabulous! Excellent investment, and will likely help hip/back issues too. I love my Freedom Pass for transport - I can use all the London transport network for free, though I have to wait until 9.30am before it works on the tube. It's a real boon, and I'm very grateful to have it!
