Sigh. And planning for tomorrow and future meals

Thank you once again for comments, it's a relief to know that some of you do understand.

Husband has been in one of his super-argumentative moods today, several times I've had to say "Ok dear, whatever you say" and just walk away into the bathroom or my bedroom with the door firmly shut, as it's the only way to stop his constant arguing, he could and would argue until the cows come home.  Or until I give in and agree he's right.  Even when he isn't.  It's exhausting.  Hopefully he'll have calmed down tomorrow.

My new mattress is arriving tomorrow, it's one of those 07.00am to 6.00 pm deliveries.....not very helpful but that's life, we're not going out anywhere so it doesn't really matter.  I'll have to be up early though - well, I'm always up early anyhow - in order to strip my bed off, the delivery firm are bringing a big bag to put the old mattress in and take it away, thankfully.  It would be preferable if they come in the morning - I don't really want to be getting the bed made up in the evening, I've got no energy left by then.  I've got all my new bedding and pillows out ready to go on the bed.

I chopped a load of veg up this morning to go in the slow cooker, making husband a lamb stew, he'll be having it today and tomorrow, with leftovers being frozen (if there are any, he serves himself up bigger portions than I do, so I'll have to make sure I do it!).  I also did a trayful of potatoes and parsnips and roasted them in the Ninja, I'll have some with my nut roast today, the rest to freeze.

This afternoon I've just sat reading, I'm feeling a bit run down and tired and my shoulder and lower back are really painful again.  No snow here and none forecast either, but it is very cold - 3 deg but feeling colder, and -1 overnight.  It's been quite sunny though, and should be still for the next 3 or 4 days, but it's deceptive - makes you think it might be warmer outside when it's not.  I've been putting washing out the last few days but by the end of the day it's still not dry so has to be finished off on the airer or in the airing cupboard.....at least it has that nice fresh outdoorsy smell though from being on the line for a few hours.

Following my freezer and larder inventory the other day, I sat and wrote out 24 days worth of dinners using what we have, I could probably stretch to another few days extra with the addition of some bought in veg.  I still seem to have loads of cheese in the fridge, it barely seems to be going down at all!  I'll have to make some veggie & cheese pasties or quiches, there's pastry in the freezer and I've got plenty of eggs.

  1. Oooh, a new mattress, lovely! I hope they deliver early in the day and you can get it all nicely made up and ready. My husband could argue for England, so you have my sympathy! My problem is that I'm also a bit stubborn and don't really like backing down, even though that's probably the best thing to do for a quiet life 😉

  2. Yes, walking away is the best option if he's in an argumentative mood. No matter what you say, it will be wrong, and arguing back will just make you feel anxious and stressed. It's sad though that the man you married has changed so much.
I hate those open ended delivery times. I wish they would give a two hour slot at least. Do they think we've nothing else to do but wait around? I hope the mattress arrives early so you can get the bed all made up ready to flop into it! Sweet dreams, and I hope it helps ease your back and shoulders.
We've had a couple of light dustings of snow today. It didn't last long, but it is so cold. A day for snuggling up in the warmth! xx

  3. I splashed out before Xmas on a big piece of Cheshire cheese from Morrisons, like a big wheel of it, £13.99, so far unopened! Best before 19th Jan, so had better get a move on!! You don't often see Cheshire where we live.

    1. You can freeze cheese if you have too much. Sadly, my lactose intolerance means I can no longer eat cheese. How I long for some tasty Stilton! xx

  4. Hi Sooze, I do hope your new mattress comes early in the day for you. I wondered if your husband has a short term memory problem which will allow you to say "yes dear" to almost everything - then he'll shut up and forget about it? It sometimes worked with my BiL who would go on and on if you argued - once you'd said yes OK he'd shut up - and forgot what he was arguing about in a couple on minutes. My sister put a TV in his own bedroom - she told him that after all if he falls asleep watching tv he may as well do it in his bedroom. She wouldn't allow him to take over the sitting room for sleeping, she'd wake him up every time, and tell him to get to bed if he wanted to sleep. You're a good peacemake Sooze but it's costing you a lot of stress, I love how you work so hard to try and make things as good as you can for both of you, plan meals and outings etc and do most of the heavy lifting yourself. It's very hard when you not only have to care for yourself but someone else, and ever harder when that someone is determined to make everything as difficult as possible. I hope 2026 is a good year for you - think more of yourself, perhaps find something online (via Zoom) - an hour or so with others to talk to would be good. I look forward to hearing from you even if you think you do nothing but moan - lots of us know where you're coming from and are happy to support you if possible. Big hugs, Elaine

  6. Fingers crossed for the mattress delivery. I'm expecting a radiator cover today, but luckily my daughter works from home so I don't have to stay in.
Walking away is probably the best thing to do, though I know its not always easy. Xx

  7. I hope they delivered the mattress early. I understand perfectly about losing energy in the evening as the same thing happens to me.
As others have said walking away is the best thing to do.

    God bless.

  8. I make a big cauliflower cheese with surplus cheese, healthier than pastry! Meal for me and a side for bigger appetites. Lots of suggestions here to try with argumentative phases, hope some of them work.Best wishes with your proactive plans.
