Winging it

After looking at lots of chunky yarn crochet cardigan patterns and not finding one that's just right for one reason or another, I've decided to wing it and make up a simple pattern as I go along.  What could go wrong?! 😂  I've been crocheting for years and years, so am reasonably confident enough to give it a try.  I'll do a textured pattern, maybe lemon peel stitch - basically 1 double then 1 treble (or single then double in US terms), or some kind of puff stitch or cluster.  I'll do a couple of test squares first to see how it looks before I decide.

I've got to go the library this morning, 2 of my books are due back and can't be renewed as others want them, must remember to renew the other 4.  I don't read as fast as I used to and mostly only read when I go to bed now, just for an hour or until I fall asleep, whichever comes first!  Then I'll go and have another look at the plants in Morrisons, I'd like to get some more pelargoniums and dahlias and maybe some petunias as well, they're on a good special offer at the moment, £3 each or 3 plants for the price of 2, too good to miss.  My flower beds are full up but I have lots of pots to fill.

Thanks for the comments about our garden.  June, you asked if they were bluebells - yes, a bed full of them and lots more scattered around.  Too many actually, especially in the bed at the back - when they've died back I'm going to dig a load up, they really need thinning out as they're too crammed together now and lots have come up blind this year.  Both my sister and sister-in-law have asked if I can send them some of the bulbs, which I will do with pleasure.

I'm feeling a bit anxious about husband's appointment with the memory clinic nurse on Friday, husband has hardly mentioned it - other than thinking it was next Tuesday for some reason.  It's only an initial short appointment, if it follows the same format as last time 4 or 5 years ago, and he won't get a diagnosis yet, that will come later after a further barrage of tests.  I guess it's a bit of anxiety about what it might mean for both of us in the future.

Lovely weather week, so plenty to keep us occupied outside.  The neighbour who's having the barn conversion work next door is back from holiday today, so I expect work will start in earnest now.

  1. I know just how you feel Sooze. We have an appointment Wednesday with the GP re: referral to Memory Clinic. I will be thinking of you on Friday. I keep thinking to myself I never thought I would be doing this…husband was convinced he would just keel over with a heart attack in his forties like his father. He was partially right he was sixty eight and was resuscitated but left with a hypoxic brain injury. Well we will both, you and I and many others cope…what else can we do. Plants can be so tempting can’t they 🤣. June

  2. Crochet is very forgiving, so I'm sure you'll be able to wing it beautifully!
I can understand your anxiety about the appointment. The outcome and the future is uncertain. One step at a time. Easy to say, I know. xx

  3. I can absolutely understand your anxiety about the appointment - it's a worrying time for you both. Try to take it a step at a time if you can, because it's so easy to let the mind run away with things and that always seems to make things worse!

  4. Sooze, I will keep you in my thoughts on Friday. Hopefully your Hubby's appointment goes well and in the same manner as the last one. Make sure you show us all your sweater.

    God bless.
