Another frustration - letter arrived yesterday saying that they couldn't process one of the LPAs (the health one) as apparently I'd inadvertently missed out a section. Bugger! It said we could either apply to the Court of Protection to have it reinstated (involving a fee, of course) or complete a new application. So obviously that's what I'll be doing, annoying as it is. Still, it was my mistake so I've just got to suck it up.
The work is continuing, noisily, next door, dodging the showers. A reader who I don't recall seeing on my blog before suggested I report them to the Council, and even helpfully supplied the web address. Thanks, but I'm not going to be doing that, for several reasons. Primarily, we'll be living here for the rest of our lives (hopefully) and I think it's important to get on with our neighbours. Having problematic neighbours is bad enough, but add Environmental Health and police into the mix and it becomes hell on earth. We had a lot of problems with a neighbour years ago when we lived up in the Midlands, we, along with the neighbours on the other side of the offender, involved EH and the police and it all became even more of a problem, the neighbour was even worse after that and caused us all no end of stress. I have absolutely no desire to get into that sort of scenario again. However annoying all the noise is at the moment, it's finite, there will be an end to it once the barn conversion is complete (hopefully within a few months). And the neighbour can actually be quite considerate, on occasion....e.g. yesterday I had washing out on the line and neighbour (let's call him Mr X, it's quicker to type!) came and knocked on the door to say they would be having some work done which would create a lot of dust, so suggested I might prefer to get my washing in before the work started, in 3 or 4 hours time, since it was very windy yesterday. That was nice of him and I appreciated the heads up.
So we just have to live with the noise for another few months - yes it's annoying and I do come on here and moan about it....but, as always, I'm just letting off steam! I don't actually live my life in a permanent state of stress and rage, although it might seem like it at times ๐๐
The fridge is working beautifully, I'm so pleased with it. Been shopping this morning and there's still lots of space in it, it's like a Tardis.
The roses in my garden are doing spectacularly well this year, especially the big white one outside my bedroom window, it's absolutely loaded with flowers:-
(It's a dull, showery day, sorry about the light). Beside it to the left, and scattered around the garden, we have lots of valerian in shades of deep pink and white. Some people regard it as a weed, but even though I didn't put it in, it's pretty and I like it.

Oh, that's a bugger about the LPA. I remember when we were doing my parent's LPA's. The new format (previously Enduring Power of Attorney) had just come in. They appointed a solicitor. It was their first LPA, too. So, of course, there were several mistakes! Dates for witnesses weren't in the right order, then the forms were returned, as the solicitor had bound the forms, and that was the wrong thing to do! What a palaver!
ReplyDeleteI agree with you, best to keep your neighbour sweet, and it was considerate of him to forewarn you about the dust to come. Hopefully the noise levels will be kept to a minimum.
What a beautiful rose bush. Yes, it does seem to be a good year for roses. The weather has certainly changed from last week, hasn't it? We've had torrential rain, now the sun has come out, but I bet there's more rain to come! xx
That rose bush is stunning. I understand the want to keep nice with neighbor's. Building and rehab is part of life in communities and it rotates. Hopefully they won't have issues and the end has a definite timeliness.
ReplyDeleteI have LPA for finance for my mum, but at the time of sorting that, and her will, she didn't sort the one for health. I explained to her recently what that means if she loses capacity; that social services will get the say on what happens to her rather than me. She now wants me to sort that, and an advanced directive too. More work for me because at the time of dealing with things herself she was trying to prevent potentially being placed in a care home sometime in the future even if that was the best and safest thing for her.
ReplyDeleteOn a brighter note, your rose bush is resplendent!
How very frustrating about the LPA. I was an attorney for both Mum and Dad (Dad did all the paperwork though) and I have LPAs ready for myself, should they be needed. Very important.
ReplyDeleteYour neighbour sounds very thoughtful, despite all the noise and disruption - you're right, a bit of give and take works wonders.
And what a beautiful rose bush. xx
I remember Richard Madeley saying what ever you do don't fall out with your neighbours whatever it takes and think that's very true
ReplyDeleteStaying on the good side of the neighbours is a must. Life is too short to be fighting with them all the time, so you are definitely right.
ReplyDeleteThat rose is absolutely astounding. So many blossoms.
God bless.
I found the 30-page LPA applications quite daunting but luckily a couple of friends helped me with my husband's LPAs. They both had experience with their parents so went through my applications thoroughly with a fine tooth comb. What a glorious rose, and I can't spy any black spot either. Do you spray them or does black spot not happen in your area?
ReplyDeleteOh, bugger is right! What an absolute pain about the health LPA. When you are already wading through that mountain of official paperwork, having it bounced back over a missed section feels like a punch to the gut, especially when it means starting a new application from scratch. But you have the absolute best attitude about it. Sucking it up and powering through is all you can do, even if you need a good stomp and a moan first!
ReplyDeleteAs for the next-door noise, you are 100% spot on. Involving the council or Environmental Health is a classic "nuclear option" that usually just radioactive-ally destroys neighbor relations forever. You have to live next to Mr. X for the long haul, and a few months of noisy barn-conversion chaos is nothing compared to years of toxic, passive-aggressive neighbor warfare. Your experience back in the Midlands is proof enough of how messy that gets!
Besides, Mr. X giving you a three-to-four-hour heads-up to save your washing from the dust storm is actually incredibly decent of him. In the world of neighbors, a considerate dust-warning is worth its weight in gold! Moan away on here to let off steam—that's exactly what blogging is for. We know you aren't shaking your fist in a permanent state of rage! ๐
On the plus side... a beautifully working, Tardis-like fridge is an absolute dream! There is nothing more satisfying than coming home from a food shop, loading it up, and realizing you still have room to spare.
And oh, that white rosebush is magnificent! Even with the dull, showery weather, those blooms look so lush and heavy outside your window. I am totally with you on the valerian, too. "Weed" is just a word for a plant growing where someone else didn't want it. If it’s popping up in pretty shades of pink and white and filling out the garden, it’s a welcome guest in my book!
Now that the fridge is sorted and the washing is safe, are you going to tackle that fresh LPA paperwork this weekend just to get it out of the way, or are you giving yourself a well-deserved break from the bureaucracy?
