Ups and downs

We've been having a nice time, albeit with a few ups and downs.  Sister's had a few health problems, and we had to go to Taunton for an emergency hospital appointment for husband, which turned out not to be an emergency.  He was referred by an over-zealous inexperienced GP registrar who was clearly erring on the side of caution.  When we arrived at the Taunton clinic, we were seen by a big chief, who took about a minute to decide that husband's problem wasn't an emergency at all, but just a routine problem (it was a foot/diabetic thing).  He stalked out muttering under his breath, clearly not amused, leaving a minion to explain.  So that was half a day wasted, for him and for us 🙄.

Sis and I are going to the theatre tonight, we're looking forward to that.

  1. Oh, well, better safe than sorry, but annoying all the same. I'm glad it wasn't serious.
    Enjoy the theatre tonight. xx

  2. I'm glad the 'emergency' turned out not to be anything to worry about, but how annoying for you all to have half a day of sister time wasted! Enjoy your visit to the theatre - should be a real treat 😃

  3. Oh I know all about over zealous Gp's that are not the patients regular doctor at the moment. Mum was visited by paramedics who completely agreed with the care home manager that Mum just needed fluids and a bit more care and definitely NOT a trip to hospital. The out of hours Dr was called to prescribe something and she insisted that Mum be rushed into hospital at two in the morning. Mum then spent a week in hospital, with us being phoned and asked the most basic questions about her twice a day. The final straw was the physiotherapist ringing to ask how far Mum could usually walk before she was admitted to hospital ... as she has been bed bound for over two months now she is completely unable to walk. Hours later she was discharged as 'medically optimised'. What a waste of a much needed hospital bed for a full week. She is now happy back at her care home being looked after by people that know her and her needs.

I hope the rest of your sisters visit is calm and relaxing, enjoy yourselves at the theatre. xx

  6. I suppose it is difficult when you are a locum and don't know the patient so erring on the side of caution seems to be sensible. Better than not taking action and it turns out to be serious.
I'm so glad he is OK and hope you enjoyed the theatre visit. xx
