The freezer is fine, husband didn't damage it with his flame thrower, I think he'd only just started when I caught him. He won't be doing it again in a hurry. As I said, the freezer is out in the car port - if it had been in the kitchen he wouldn't have got through the kitchen door with that bloody thing, he'd have known I'd have blown a fuse if he tried.
We went on the free shopper's bus to Bridgwater yesterday, it was....interesting. For a start, it was a coach, not a bus, and had 3 big steps up to get on it. The driver, who apparently is the regular one, was very friendly and helpful, he got off the coach at each stop and put everyone's shopping bags and granny trolleys in the luggage hold. The coach was about half full by the time it arrived in town, all pensioners (apart from me!), although it's not specifically for oldies. They all appeared to know one another, there was a lot of chatter and ribbing each other, it was a bit like a pensioners day out. Which I suppose it was really! It was an older coach, so not particularly comfortable and was quite hot and airless, despite all the roof lights being open (there were no opening windows). I started off wearing my seatbelt but soon took it off, it was just too hot and uncomfortable - I noticed hardly any of the other passengers wore theirs (husband didn't).
1.5 hours at the large retail park wasn't enough time to go in every store we wanted to, although we did get the main things we wanted. The journey home was shorter, as the driver didn't stop at any of the stops where nobody had got on on the outward journey. I don't think I'll be in a rush to go regularly in the future, but it's nice to know it's an option if we want. Husband quite enjoyed not driving. It was very hot in Bridgwater, hotter than here, I was very glad to get home.
We've got visitors on Monday, husband's brother and SiL are coming to take us out for lunch on their way home to the Midlands, they've been down for a long weekend. That'll be nice, they're a lovely couple.
Well, as you say, it's an option. Maybe it'll be better on a cooler day. It's not very pleasant being overheated and no windows to open.
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the visit on Monday. Oh, and glad the freezer wasn't damaged! xx
Happily it should be a different sort of journey in Winter, when it will be nice to be on a warm coach. Think of all the scenery hubby has been missing over the years not being able to fully look around because he was driving. He's going to love being a passenger at last. π
ReplyDeleteHe'd have to stay awake to enjoy the scenery π
DeleteHaha, funnily enough Alan drops off on buses as well. We once had an open-topped bus ride around Paris to learn more about the city ... he fell asleep within minutes, I enjoyed it. :-)
DeleteAs you say it’s an option and nice to have a driver who cares enough to help with trolleys etc.
ReplyDeleteShame about the steps, those old coaches can be quite a challenge to climb in and out of.
Sounds like it's the sort of journey that becomes more enjoyable once you've done it a few times and start to feel like part of the group. As a driver, I love it when someone else is behind the wheel and I don't have to be on the alert. My sister and I used to take a long bus journey on Saturday mornings to the 'posh' shops in another town when we were teenagers, and we would both fall sound asleep on the way back - fortunately, the driver would whistle to wake us up at our stop!
ReplyDeleteI just wanted to say good for you for looking for and testing options. Most people seem to get caught off guard with significant changes even when they are inevitable. I wish you good luck as you continue to figure transportation options without a car.
ReplyDeleteI am so glad you tried it out. I would love an option like that. Buses can be horribly hot, and it is too bad the windows did not open.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
