Husband had to get dressed early this morning and go next door to have a word with the workmen, who'd arrived exceptionally early today. At the risk of repeating myself, I KNOW the work has to be done, but banging and clattering around at 06.25 is really taking the piss! Sorry for the language, but I was swearing a lot worse in real life!
I am just SO SICK OF IT. Being driven out of our home again today, just to get a bit of relief from the noise. It's driving me insane.
I know they're on the final stretch now, they're taking up the old wooden flooring and laying carpets, but by god I'm going to be a gibbering wreck by the time they've finished, weeks and weeks of this constant noise is just too much.
All I hope now is that you get nice neighbours, that would be the icing on the cake if they were awful.

I would have thought there would be some kind of law about doing noisy work at that time in a morning but probably not these days....although I do know that it is against the law to hoover before 9am and after 6pm. Can't remember where I read that.

Hi Sooze - sorry not commented much recently but I have been reading along. It must be so hard and frustrating with the constant noise - we live in a detached house and when we visited my MIL when she was alive and living in her semi I was always very aware of the neighbours next door because of the noise that came through the wall - and that was just the TV and such - how you have managed with the building noises all this time is quite remarkable and I can fully understand that you are at screaming point now. I hope it stops for you soon. It must be a lovely house by now with all the new stuff in there.
ReplyDeleteYour mum sounds like they have made her very comfortable now and with the extra help on offer should make things a bit easier for you all.
6 am is a ridiculous time to start work (maybe OK if the house was detached), no wonder you are stressed. Like Briony I hope you end up with really good neighbours.
ReplyDeleteSounds to me like they are on contract to finish at a certain date and they are behind, hence the very early start. I agree - they should make an effort to be quiet at that time of day. It's just selfish not to.

OH Sue, you really have had a rotten time of it just lately. I hope for your peace of mind that it all stops sooner rather than later.
ReplyDeleteMy neighbour is currently hammering and banging - it happened at 4.40am the other morning. It's Ramadan, so he's living at opposite ends of the day to us at the moment. It's preferable to the neighbour we had at our previous house - the one who played music all night until 6am, who we could hear having sex, who had visitors who raced cars up and down the street. I know how hard it is, but there will be an end to it.
ReplyDeleteCan't imagine why that can't lay carpet over the existing wood floor.
ReplyDeleteThat is entirely too early. I would contact the landlord, maybe you can get a break on payments. The least he can do.
We have a noise bylaw here that you can't start before 7a.m. and not after 10p.m.not much better than 6:30. I hope the end is in sight.
ReplyDeleteWorkmen from the council here can't start until 8am. If they are early, they sit in their van until the right time.
