I know my blog isn't to everyone's taste....it's not all dreamy country living in a cottage with roses round the door (even though we do have roses round the door!), baking bread, sewing (I loathe sewing of any kind) and crocheting, sitting outside shelling peas and listening to the birds sing. My life - as with most people's lives if truth be told - isn't all lovely, it's bloody hard, extremely stressful and anxiety inducing a lot of the time. And yes I do post a lot of negative stuff and it can come across as complaining a lot of the time.
We can't all be upbeat, happy, shrugging off the negative stuff all the time - for those who are, well, good for you. Unfortunately, I'm not like that. I have a friend who's always positive and turns everything into a joke, he can find humour in absolutely any situation, whereas my sense of humour deserts me entirely in stressful situations. But that friend comes across as ruthless and uncaring.
All of our family, both mine and husband's, live far away from here, so we only rarely see them. Especially now that husband is unable to drive long distances. We do keep in contact by phone (our internet here is so slow and weak that video calls are pretty much out of the question), but it's not the same as actually seeing and talking to people face to face - you can't hug someone over the phone. Several people I was close to have died in the past 2 or 3 years - mostly before they had a chance to get old. Some of our friends have quietly withdrawn from us over the past few months, it seems the more problems we've had, the less they've been in contact. That's fair enough, I know not everybody can cope with difficult situations or, especially, depression and anxiety. As a matter of fact, I sometimes feel that I can't cope - but I don't have the option of withdrawing from the situation, I HAVE to cope whether I want to or not.
So since I no longer have a close confidante anymore - husband or nearby friend - I post the negative stuff or whatever's worrying me on here, my blog. (Well, most of it....there are things I don't post and never will, it's a public blog after all and I'm not airing all of my dirty linen in public.) It gets it all off my chest and out of my head - if I didn't let it out, I'd go stark raving mad.
So I'm sorry if my seemingly constant whingeing annoys people - I didn't choose to have problems, especially ongoing ones, and we all cope with things in different ways, we're not all clones of my above-mentioned friend with his lovely life and laughing outlook on everything.
You come across to me as someone living a difficult life with as much grace as possible and if some people find it depressing they can go and follow a blog about butterflies. Real life is messy and frequently stressful and I for one admire your strength but can completely understand the toll it takes. My nana used to say to me that you're never given more than you have the strength to bare and I have often thought I could do with being less strong. You keep putting the things in your blog that you need to get off your chest we may be your online friends but we're still here for you.
ReplyDeleteI think most people like to let you think they're happy 100% most of the time, but they're really not. Your friend sounds lovely...he tries to hide his true feelings from you by being annoyingly wonderful...he's a good friend. He's probably got a lot of sad things in his life he can't bare to burden You with.
ReplyDeleteAnd...this is Your blog! Say what you need to! I'm not going through what You are....and you aren't living My life. We each deal with things differently (thank Heavens). We have a sweet greatgran baby to love and watch grow, every Monday. At 72, it's not easy but what else do we have? Watching each other breathe? lolol...
You seem to be a very loving and kind woman with some pretty daunting problems you're trying to live with. Just know, no one has judged you, in the least. We are here for you!
Now, pick your chin Up, put a smile on your face and know you have a ton of "friends" who love you. Albeit long distance but that's okay.
Now, give us a hug and go bake something...lol, and give Betty a good belly rub for me. It truly Is going to be alright....
Hugs
Donna
Understood. We all need an outlet for our feelings, And I, too, get thoroughly fed up with blogs that only show 'curated' lives which are completely unrealistic!
ReplyDeleteNo need to be sorry Suze. If people don't want to read they can go elsewhere... there are lots of blogs to choose from. I'm another with a life full of difficulties, and very much the filling in the generational sandwich. The problem is, who cares for the carer, especially when they have health problems of their own? I've now got a form of vertigo to add to the list of illnesses/ conditions plaguing me.
ReplyDeleteIt's understandable. You don't annoy me. I am here listening and praying.
ReplyDeleteEchoing all of the above. It's your blog, and if it helps you to have the occasional moan here, go for it! No-one knows what another is going through and how it is affecting them, so shouldn't judge. You know, if you ever want a real blood-curdling rant and rage, I'm ready to listen, as are many of your readers. We may not be able to be there face to face, but we have virtual shoulders for you to cry on, and virtual arms to give you a hug. xxx
ReplyDeleteSuze, this is your blog and you can post whatever you want. I think it is good that you tell it like it is - it's kind of reassuring to know that not everyone has that bright and perfect life all of the time. You are doing well considering everything that you have to deal with. Hang in there and keep writing!
ReplyDeleteI am honored you chose to share your life as it is. As most people, I have serious problems in my life. I am comforted reading your blog.
ReplyDeleteIt's better to get things off your chest by having a rant. Those who read your blog are here for you. So true, who cares for the carer. Sadly life and illness does make ones world smaller.
ReplyDeleteYou don't need to apologise for anything you post, it's refreshing to read about real life these days, makes us realise we're not alone. You carry on and share and we'll carry on caring (albeit from a distance).
ReplyDeleteI read your blog daily and wish I could do more. Please keep sharing.
ReplyDeleteNever stop writing. I read your blog daily and admire your honesty and willingness to share the real world of caregiving. I cared for my husband’s dementia filled life for 10 years and writing was a way of managing my own sanity. Reading of others on the same journey was a source of strength. You may be providing them with a daily dose of companionship in their isolated caregiver world.
ReplyDeleteI've just popped in here from Poppy Patchwork and have read some of your posts. You strike me as honest and self-sufficient. Anyone who has been criticising you needs to imagine walking in your shoes. Everyone needs an outlet and if blogging is yours, so be it.
